Swedish Holistic massage uses both massage techniques in each session:-

The Swedish massage system uses techniques such as
effleurage (long, gliding strokes),
petrissage (lifting and kneading the muscles),
friction (firm, deep, circular rubbing movements),
tapotement (brisk tapping or percussive movements),
and vibration (rapidly shaking or vibrating specific muscles).

Holistic massage aims to treat the whole person – body, mind and soul.
The first step in a holistic massage treatment is to complete a consultation with the client.
A full medical history is taken, along with current state of physical and emotional health, eating habits and lifestyle and work habits. A treatment plan is then drawn up, with the aim to heal whatever it is the client and therapist feel needs to be healed.
The massage is tailored towards each individual depending on what the pathology is.

The client may need to return for several massages, or a one-off could be enough to do the trick.
Although I personally advise one massage a month to keep the lymph moving around the body, and to encourage the elimination of waste products and delivering of nutrition to the cells.
